This idea comes on the heels of my last article "Housing the Ascendant" which looks at the Ascendant sign
in inferior relation to the Sun, and the idea that EACH and ALL of the components of your chart can be used
to create the astrological "houses", which are little more than elaborated sign aspects.
Just as we have housed the Ascendant, which is our Earth or Gaia sign, so we can house the Midheaven which
is our Heaven or Sky sign. If we use the Ascendant to start the chart(using whole sign houses), your Midheaven
will fall anywhere in the upper half of the chart, meaning the 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th houses. The
closer you are to the equator the more your MC will be near the noon or 10th house sector, while the very northern
or southern latitudes will put your MC closer to the Ascendant or descendant. Whichever house/sign it falls in is
where(or how) career matters will be emphasized. This is the standard way of assessing the MC influence
using whole sign houses. There are other ways as well.
If we use the Sun or ego as our chart reference point instead of the Ascendant, the Midheaven or MC will naturally
fall in a different house or aspect relationship(unless it is in the same sign as the Ascendant). So if someone, for
example, has the Sun in Taurus and a Gemini MC, the MC will fall into his or her solar 2nd house, emphasizing a link
between the the career and finances. If this same person has the Moon in Leo, and we use that as the reference point,
the MC then falls in the lunar 11th house(upper sextile) and is interpreted accordingly.
Because there are normally many signs occupied in the chart, there will be many possible housings for the Midheaven,
but I would concentrate primarily on the Sun and Ascendant signs as reference points. Below is a short description
of the Asc/MC and Sun/MC relationships.
Asc conjunct(1st), sextile(3rd/11th), trine(5th/9th), or oppose(7th) the MC: Personal presentation and public aspirations are in accord.
There is an ability to personally manifest one's professional aspirations. Examples: an artist who acts or a beautician who models.
Asc semi-sextile(2nd/12th), square(4th/10th), or quincunx(6th/8th) the MC: Personal presentation and public aspirations are very different
and expressed separately. Examples: An unkempt artist whose works become famous or an attractive individual who excels in business or finance.
Sun conjunct(1st), sextile(3rd/11th), trine(5th/9th), or oppose(7th) the MC: Priorities and goals are in accord. One's deepest inner self
is intimately tied to one's career or public calling. Examples: Practical types who work in business or idealists who work as writers or
artists.
Sun semi-sextile(2nd/12th), square(4th/10th), or quincunx(6th/8th) the MC: Personal priorities and public position are very different. One's
deepest inner self is at odds or conflict with one's career. Examples: Anyone in the wrong job or career.
Note: planets on the Asc or MC can emphasize or mitigate the effect.
